Where is The World, Dubai?

The World is located 4 km (2.5 miles) off the Dubai coastline, situated between The Burj Al Arab and Port Rashid.

How was The World created?

It took almost 2 years of careful planning, research development and design before The World was announced to the real estate industry. Measuring approximately 9 km in width by 7 km in length, the development will cover approximately 9,340,000 square meters and will even be visible from space. The World will add an additional 232 kilometres of beachfront to Dubai’s coastline. For it to take shape, over 326 million cubic meters of sand had to be moved to form the islands, as well as the creation of a 27 kilometre long oval shape breakwater.

Sophisticated machinery and large volumes of sand were pumped from the sea floor and deposited into the exact location to form the islands. Mixed with fertile soil to create a stable base, this ensured no sand could be washed back into the sea. Vegetation was then added into the mix, as this takes root, not only does it evoke a more natural look to The World in Dubai but it also creates even more of a reliable foundation.

How many islands are on The World?

The World consists of 300 man made islands strategically positioned to form the shape of the world map,

How do I get to and from the mainland of Dubai?

There are four main transportation hubs; North, East, South and West, each of which is strategically located no further than 15 minutes away from each of the islands. These will provide health care facilities, commercial marinas, and emergency and security services to residents.

Each of the hubs will be connected to the mainland through the varying modes of public and private vehicles and a network of canals will also give residents and visitors access to the islands via ferries and water taxis.

What services are available?

There are two main service hubs, built on the breakwaters and situated at opposite ends, one on the East and the other on the West. These hubs will have a central utility plant, gas fired power plant, pump station, water storage facility and power & water lines. In addition to this fuel will also be brought onto the islands from Dubai.

How will I gain water and other supplies to my property?

Water will be delivered to each of islands via underwater pipes, whilst power will be brought in from the mainland of Dubai, supported by the gas fired power plant and delivered throughout the development.

The "primary corridor" is the main channel that will be approximately 23,150 metres long and loop around The World, directly transferring the utilities to residents from the central service hubs. The 'utility corridors' will be special underwater conduits that will carry, protect and safely separate the power cables and the water pipes.

Is there a possibility of any of the land sinking?

The sand has been careful crafted and mixed with fertile soil to create a stable base, ensuring no sand can be washed back into the sea. There is also a 27 kilometre oval shaped breakwater in place to protect the islands which have been specially designed to disperse wave energy and control the current of water flow within The World.
